The USGS Ohio Water Science Center (OWSC) works with State and local agencies, academia, and other federal agencies to strengthen the science of beach monitoring. The OWSC is also collaborating on Great Lakes beach science as part of the USGS Oceans Research Priority Plan and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Four science elements are addressed as part of this Great Lakes collaboration: real-time assessments; pathogens and microbial source tracking; coastal processes; and data analysis, interpretation, and communication.
