Saving your work
The Save feature allows you to save an in-progress work session, as insurance against a computer crash
or as a way to intentionally stop in the middle of a session and come back to it later. GCLAS does not automatically
save work sessions, so you will need to use this feature at whatever interval you deem appropriate.
To save a work session in progress,
- Put the cursor on the File menu in the upper left corner of the main window and left click on the Save
option when it displays. The file browser that will appear is the same one that you use to import files, but
you'll use it in a different way to save your session.
- Give your work-session file a name in the File name field. The extension .gpf will automatically be
appended when the session is saved.
- Left click on Save to save the file.
- Repeat this procedure as often as desired to overwrite previous saves.
To save a work-session in a different file (if, for example, you're experimenting with multiple analytical options),
use the Save as command in the File menu (or use the keyboard shortcut shift-a).
Note: To reopen a work-session file, you'll need to exit GCLAS and restart it.
To reopen the file and resume work,
- Start GCLAS.
- Choose Open from the File menu (or use the keyboard shortcut shift-o).
- Select the desired work-session (.gpf) file and left click on the Open button. It may take a minute
or two for your computer to reconstruct the work session, so be patient.
- Look in the file-tree panel in the upper left. You should see a folder corresponding to the station you were
working on previously.
- Expand the folder to display the individual files by left clicking on the toggle icon or double left clicking
on the folder icon.
- Left click on the concentration file name to highlight it, then right click to select the option to create
or edit a GCLAS year.
- When the next view appears in the panel, you should see a row of data corresponding to the work session that
you saved. Left click on that row to highlight it.
- Left click on the Edit gclas year button and you'll soon be able to continue where you left off.
