The USGS Ohio Water Science Center (OWSC) has been working with State and local agencies, academia, and other federal agencies to strengthen the science of beach monitoring since 1997, focusing on three areas of research—source tracking, predictive models, and improved monitoring methods. Recently, the focus has shifted towards predictive models, including adding information about predicting cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) to the Ohio Nowcast.
